FAQ

Q: Will everyone who wants a part as a performer be cast in the show?

A: Yes. Everyone who wishes to perform in the show will be cast in a role. Our auditions are "placement" auditions to determine which actor is best suited for each role. Our audition process does not cut any performer who wishes to participate.

Q: What is the audition process?

A: The first day of auditions is an Audition Workshop. Everyone is required to attend the Workshop, regardless if they want to participate as a Performer or as a part of the Stage/Props Crew. The Workshop gets the students and Director acquainted with each other and with the audition process and materials. Each student wishing to participate as a Performer will then audition on his or her designated day.

Q: What is Props/Run Crew?

A: Props/Run Crew ("Crew") is the group of students who help design and construct various props and set decoration pieces used in the show. These students also serve as the Stage Crew who work to move set pieces and props to their necessary places on stage during the performances.

Q: Is every child required to sing in the show?

A: Yes. If your child chooses to participate as a Performer, they will be required to sing and dance at various times throughout the show.

Q: Can my child be guaranteed a speaking line?

A: No. Casting decisions are made by The Director. No one is guaranteed a particular role based upon age, grade, prior experience or any other factor. Casting decisions are based upon the observations of the Director, Music Director and/or Choreographer during the audition process.

Q: What is the time commitment required for Performers?

A: Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays right after school. The specific schedule will be available after Auditions. Not every actor will be called for every rehearsal. The week prior to our performance is called Tech Week and rehearsals will be scheduled each day that week and attendance at each of those rehearsals is mandatory for all Performers and Crew.

Q: Is the time commitment the same for Props/Run Crew?

A: Generally, no. Students choosing to participate in Props/Run Crew are not expected to be available for each work session. Specific scheduling and expectations will be explained during the Mandatory Parent/Child Meeting. However, the week prior to our performance is called Tech Week and rehearsals will be scheduled each day that week and attendance at each of those rehearsals is mandatory for all Performers and Crew.

Q: What are the parent volunteer requirements?

A: Our production would not be possible without the volunteer efforts of parents. We do expect each family to volunteer in some capacity. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available and each requires different time and effort commitments. There are opportunities to volunteer multiple times throughout the production process and there are also volunteer roles that are limited to specific days and/or times. Please see the Volunteer Descriptions Tab and/or the Volunteer Coordinator for further information.
